The expression, "it's hot enough to fry an egg" can certainly apply to the intensity of the Arizona heat during certain times of the year. While there's no arguing the fact that the Arizona sun gets hot, is it hot enough to actually cook and keep foot hot? Sun Ovens International says it is, and plans to prove it during its ninth annual Solar Cook-off & Expo on June 4, 2011, in Baja, Arizona. Chefs from across the nation are being challenged to produce delectable creations using solar ovens as their medium for cooking. Solar cookbooks and potluck prizes await participants. Other perks from the event include raffle prizes and event t-shirts. The event will also feature classes and lectures on the basics of cooking with solar ovens as well as an exhibit and sale of Sun Ovens, cookware and cookbooks. Sun Ovens International's mission is to help people become less dependent on wood and fossil fuels by developing and implementing comprehensive programs that use the sun's energy - beginning with cooking. While a solar-powered oven may be adequate to cook food, many turn to simple equipment, like wire chafing stands, to keep food hot. |
